The Carnegie The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh represents the public library system in Pittsburgh. It consists of the main library in Oakland, along with eighteen branch locations throughout the city. It is a knowledge and resource center for readers of all ages.

The Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh are comprised of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Carnegie Science Center and The Andy Warhol Museum (see separate descriptions of each museum below).

Monumental sculptures of Michelangelo, Galileo, Bach, and Shakespeare, representing art, science, music, and literature, welcome you to the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. They are located in a magnificent building that also encompasses the Carnegie Music Hall, and adjoins with the main branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

Highlights of the Carnegie Museum of Art include mid-nineteenth century American and European paintings, especially Impressionism and Post-Impressionism masterpieces. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is home to one of the largest dinosaur collections in the U.S. You will also be impressed with the dazzling display of minerals and gems in Hillman Hall.

With its marble walls, grand pillars, and gold leaf ceiling, the foyer to the Carnegie Music Hall is an architectural masterpiece in the Baroque tradition. The hall itself hosts a variety of programs including the distinguished Three Rivers Lecture Series, which brings to Pittsburgh great writers, thinkers, and commentators.

Carnegie Science Center features astonishing hands-on activities, a planetarium, OMNIMAX theater, interactive exhibits, an elaborate Miniature Railroad & Village, and the USS Requin, a World War II submarine. Highmark SportsWorks is an amazing exhibition that combines, in an entertaining way, experiencing sports with the laws of science that underscore sports.

Clayton, the Victorian home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, uniquely captures the turn-of-the-century lifestyle of this privileged Pittsburgh family. Every detail of the mansion has been authentically refurbished highlighting the furniture, fabrics, art, antiques and everyday treasures that the family enjoyed. The grounds include the Car and Carriage Museum (featuring 30 antique cars and carriages), Greenhouse, and Children's Playhouse.

Duquesne Incline The Duquesne Incline and Monongahela Incline are historic cable cars that travel the steep side of Mt. Washington where there is a spectacular view overlooking the Three Rivers, Heinz Field, PNC Park and The Pittsburgh Point.

The Frick Art Museum, at the entrance to Clayton, is a jewel. It showcases Helen Clay Frick's personal collection of exquisite paintings and decorative arts spanning the 13th through 18th centuries.

Kennywood Amusement Park at night Kennywood Amusement Park boasts every kind of ride - from mighty roller coasters to a gentle carousel to raging rapids guaranteed to splash. Along with rides that demonstrate the latest in daring speeds and spectacular heights, there is something nostalgic about Kennywood that takes you back in time and makes you happy!

The Mattress Factory is a unique museum featuring site-specific installations of contemporary art integrated with the architectural environment.

In the National Aviary, surround yourself with the sights and sounds of 500 familiar and exotic birds in their re-created natural habitats.

The beautiful Nationality Rooms are located within the University of Pittsburgh' s Cathedral of Learning. They represent 29 architecturally unique classrooms, designed and decorated in styles ranging from the 5th to 18th centuries. These rooms reflect Pittsburgh's pride in our multicultural heritage. You can tour them on your own or with a guide.

Phipps Conservatory Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the largest greenhouse in America, is reminiscent of the Victorian glass houses of the 1890's World's Fair. Highlights include a Palm Court, Orchid Room, Desert Room, Japanese Courtyard Garden, Rose Garden, outdoor lily ponds in the Aquatic Gardens, and one of the premier bonsai collections in the country. You will not want to miss the yearly breathtakingly beautiful flower shows and seasonal Butterfly Forest.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium features animals from around the world in naturalistic habitats, a fabulous aquarium, and Kid's Kingdom, ranked among the top three children's zoos in the country!

Sandcastle is a spectacular water park sporting 15 unbelievable waterslides, a "Lazy River," wave pool, beach, arcade, and an old-fashioned boardwalk!

Strip District flowers The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, formerly an ice warehouse, is one of 15 history museum affiliates of the Smithsonian Institution. It showcases the history of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania by capturing, through an extraordinary collection of historical materials, life in this region from the first settlers to today.

The Society for Contemporary Craft is a delightful museum dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art and promoting artists who work in craft media (e.g., ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood). Along with changing exhibitions, the museum has a children's studio and a wonderful gift shop.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Military History Museum is a heroic building modeled after the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The museum commemorates Pennsylvania's veterans of war and military heroes from the time of the Civil War through the 20th century.

The (Andy) Warhol Museum celebrates the work of this renowned pop artist, a native of the region. It is the most comprehensive single-artist museum in the United States in the depth and range of its collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, videos, films, and archival material.
