Discover the New Pittsburgh - Shopping

Lemonade Stand Retail

Interested in shopping? In downtown Pittsburgh, you will find upscale retail stores located in One Oxford Centre, while bold and brassy Fifth Avenue Place has a fleet of popular arcade shops.

There are wonderful shopping districts in the city's East End neighborhoods. Trendy and upbeat Walnut Street in Shadyside is a fun place to go for clothes and gifts, while Ellsworth Avenue in the back end of Shadyside is oriented towards art, crafts, and antiques. The stores at Forbes and Murray Avenues in Squirrel Hill combine upscale retail shopping with basic life necessities. Additional specialty shops can be found in Sewickley and Oakmont.

Malls are popular throughout the suburbs including the Waterworks in Fox Chapel, and Ross Park in the North Hills. The Galleria, South Hills Village, and Century III are located in the South Hills, and heading East is the Monroeville Mall. They feature all the chain stores, while the Waterfront, in Homestead, is home to such basics as Target and Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, and most other big bix stores.

The Strip District

Strip District Shopping Ethnic foods and generous amounts of just about anything can be purchased in the Strip District. Do not wait to discover one of Pittsburgh's most memorable areas. This large wholesale shopping district and farmer's market sprawls throughout the warehouses along the Allegheny River. Merchants and farmers display their abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, glorious flowers, handmade crafts, and tantalizing ethnic foods in curbside stalls and warehouse stores stocked from floor to ceiling.

Pennsylvania Macaroni Co. You can buy generous amounts of any item and almost always at a bargain. Purchase apples by the bushel, wheels of cheese, and scoops of olives. As you meander through the Strip, savor the aroma of cappuccino, old-fashioned sausage, and freshly baked biscotti. Feast your eyes on mounds of soft shell crabs, shrimp and salmon. Sneak into a chocolate store and indulge yourself. Take home party and paper goods in bulk quantities. The list is endless, as is the cornucopia of sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that you will experience in this bustling marketplace, especially on Saturday mornings.
